Artist Statement

Music is an extension of me, yet it is also something so mystical. I am the vessel, I harbor a space that captures moments, images, melodies. It’s like something inside me is always ready to create. My music sounds different because it is not attempting to be anything else but the moment. To have the body of work that I have - as a grassroots musician - surprises me. Yet still I keep going in this artistic endeavor - and I see that this pursuit is truly rare.

Why is it rare? It is rare because my work demonstrates my freedom. It demonstrates that I have chosen this work - this reaching for something beyond me - and within me - above other pursuits - much more expected. I tried to have a normal life. I want a normal life. But I have a soul that has always been very loud. And she continues to guide me. I don’t understand why my life has taken these turns - yet, the music, is my most constant companion, she is my most reliable confidant. She speaks and sings to me and through me and with me in odd hours of the night, when women tend to open themselves truly to what exists within and beyond them. The ones both brave, and the ones captured and hidden.

I have been both.

I cannot disconnect my womanhood from my creativity from my devotion to the Divine from the victory of my wholeness from the way my body loves from my talent from my hunger for knowing realms deeper and deeper, still. From my tenacity, from my angst from my peace of mind from my struggle to be more and more human.

My music reflects where I was in that moment of time. I have made decisions that now I think differently about - yet, I intend to keep my music up to show my journey. I intend to keep sounding truer and truer - until, I sound completely and entirely myself.
